St. Paul Lutheran School, Bonduel
St. Paul parent Jamie Wege last week showed students and teachers photos and artifacts from her recent mission trip to Uganda in Africa. Students enjoyed seeing photos and hearing stories of similarities and differences in culture and religion.
Preschool and kindergarten students gave a “Little Christians Sing Praise” program for parents, grandparents and members of the congregation. Kindergarten graduation was the highlight of the evening.
Students in the eighth grade, along with a teacher and a few parents, accompanied an eighth-grade class from St. John Lutheran School in West Bend to Washington, D.C. The classes will be touring many famous landmarks in our nation’s history with a Christian perspective on how our country was founded. Four students, two from each school, won essay contests that allow them the honor of placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Congratulations to Ben Schmidt and Colin Wussow! The topics of the essay contest related to what freedom means to them. They are also looking forward to graduation June 4. Congratulations to all 22 students. Speeches will be given by valedictorian Derrick Folkman and co-salutatorians Jake Moede and Bennett Reisler.
St. James Lutheran School, Shawano
Garden Club members took a field trip to St. Martin in Clintonville to look at their school garden and visit with Chris Cloeter, who started the garden. Everyone was amazed at what the students had accomplished since starting the garden over five years ago. The garden is totally “green” and uses very little water. They enjoyed hearing how the students snack on beans, chives and rhubarb during recess. The Garden Club has a standing invitation to visit the garden any time during the growing season.
First-graders took a tour of Twig’s bottling company to see how Sun Drop is made. They had a good time watching the machines and people work and learned a lot about the yummy soda. They even got to test some.
Sacred Heart Catholic School
The last day of school for Sacred Heart students will be June 6. Parents will need to make arrangements for children to be picked up at the end of the day; there is no bus service.
The end-of-the-year art class for third through eighth grades was a great, fun activity. Students tie-died T-shirts on Wednesday and were asked to wear old clothes to do their activity.
The Spring Showcase on May 22 proved to be a wonderful evening for all. The evening began with a sandwich dinner and was followed by a concert. Children presented a rainbow of color, with each class singing a different song from a color of the rainbow. The students also had their art, writing and science on display for the parents to peruse. The evening ended with an amusing play put on by the seventh- and eighth-grade classes.
Student Council sponsored a fun service project last week. It began with an afternoon tailgate lunch outside. The students worked very hard to clean up the school grounds as well as the area around the church. We then enjoyed a rousing game of kickball after our cleanup. The “upstairs” classes of fifth through eighth grade competed against the “downstairs” classes, which included the kindergarten class along with staff, including Father Luke Ferris, who joined in the fun. Everyone had a wonderful time on the sunny afternoon.
The school will have the eighth-grade graduation Mass at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, with a program to follow in the cafeteria from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please make sure to be a well-wisher for our upcoming high school students. We wish them all the best in their future schooling.
Make sure to check the lost and found before the end of the year. It will be emptied on Friday.
Gresham Community School
The Gresham Community School band played in the Memorial Day parade on Monday. They marched down Main Street and then played several songs at the presentation with the veterans at Riverside Park.
Wednesday, we had a high school incentive as a reward for our WKCE scores. The entire high school traveled to Appleton to play at Badgers Sports Park and then go bowling at the Super Bowl after.
Graduation is at 7 p.m. Friday with a chemical-free celebration starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 4 a.m.
